Heart of Half-Gold
03:09
|
|||
heart of half gold
i once was getting now i've gotten older
from heart to head the signal skips a beat
the aching starts before the knees fall on the ground
heart of half gold
flopping around like a fish in a boat
see the arm reaching for the oar
it's swinging for me so i don't make it to the shore
with every breath
i've got left to breathe
you'll find me in mid-gasp squirming for that feeling
that i get when i've met another heart of half gold
hold on give a guy
some time to breathe
wait up
time can take such time to pass
and baby, i know
you want a little more
than what i've got but when i give
i'm giving all i can
with this heart of half gold

Old Babies
03:22
|
|||
old babies
no one calls them what they are
the end is always future tense
the start is like a cresting arc
old babies
grow to live in different skins
the ones they wear when they show up
become a dust they live within
old babies
living in a stranger's brain
asking one of many selves
what should every thought contain
old babies
all of them were raised by fools
who told them time would see them through
until it forgets what it's doing
old babies
waiting takes a heavy toll
they think that they're ready for the change
but always end up wanting more
and if they need rest
they'll be testing
the order of the world
in order to sleep they'll have to seethe
until they become soothed
they take a deep breath
try to take note
see if it feels like last gasps do
waiting for the sign
hung on a door
nobody's walking through
old babies
no one calls them what they are
the ending makes the future tense
the starting makes the past a farce
and if they need rest
they'll be testing
the order of the world
in order to sleep they'll have to seethe
until they become soothed
they take a deep breath
try to take note
see if it feels like last gasps do
waiting for the sign
hung on a door
nobody's walking through

Strangers
03:14
|
|||
stranger to yourself
not so strange
to anybody else
what you feel
well it's been felt before
life's been around as long as you were born
strange as it would feel
you couldn't do as well
being as simple as
somebody else
you live in a human world
making conversation
with human girls
crawl into bellyaches
sending postcards
from special places
you know so well
strange as it would feel
you couldn't do as well
being as simple as
somebody else
when you say hello
it sounds like a lie
it could have been the start
but words came out like something had died
the good old days were gone
everyone seems to want to cry
but you, you never learned
because you got that pride

Slow Drain
03:00
|
|||
slow drain
the water now sits longer than it used to
slow drain
leaves you standing in what washes off of you
fingers curl as the gurgle sings a new refrain
you wait, what else you gonna do
memories fade
those tired old pipes lead to somewhere
and plans once made
begin to weaken in the ground they were put into
things change
when comfort goes it makes for strange moods
it takes
getting used to
those pipes once felt so new
and they worked like they had something to prove
but it wasn't proof enough
to last what they'd have to live through
from the moment made nothing stays the same
as what it's meant to be

The Only Way
02:35
|
|||
lately in the village
tough luck has endured
time to reset expectations
from that old world kind of thinking
program up new software
to make new hearts melt
listen as the old time singers
sigh into their microphones
the only way out is through
the biggest barrier is you
you remember memories
how they made you feel
now you're on the brave new path
tiptoeing the feeling creeps in
listen as your elders tell of times made still
tough talk takes a careful toil
from mouth to ear the message seeps in
the only way out is through
the biggest barrier is you
